 About SAICLL

Sindh, Province in Pakistan, by virtue of its proud rich mystic character, has always been duly seen as an ideal citadel for promotion of peace, tolerance and social harmony. University of Sindh, being its oldest and highest seat of learning, has equally been expected to assimilate, nurture and disseminate ideas that help produce and sustain the most vibrant, diverse yet tolerant social set up which could eventually culminate into palpable national development.

In an effort to promote Unity in Diversity and Global understanding through Languages, we are pleased to announce that 2nd Shaikh Ayaz International Conference on Language and Literature (SAICLL) is going to be held in Nov 7-10, 2008 falling in line with United Nation’s mission proclaiming 2008 as the International Year of Languages.

Recent UN reports underline a serious threat to all worlds' regional indigenous languages and fears their fast flow to extinction in near future, hence the issue is accorded due heed. The current situation, as a result, makes it more mandatory for us to hold conferences and symposiums on the challenges facing survival of these languages and on highlighting their seminal significance (which they inherently possess) toward more harmonious ethnic, cultural, social and civil understanding in and outside Pakistan.

As for specific conference objectives, the most will primarily spotlight in

  • Exchange of ideas and information with regard to language significance and research in the context of goodwill, peace, and closer cultural relations among diverse ethnic group at national as well as international levels.

  • Extension, improvement and refinement of languages including English language related to the regional, national and global needs of the people.

  • Enhancement of language-understanding-culture as an instrument for the promotion of tolerant civil society.

  • Discard myths, fables and stereotyped claims about languages and generate body of information instead, based on scientific research/investigation of languages.

  • Provide world linguists and scholars a common platform to exchange ideas and explore better future prospects of language and literature development.

  • To generate research addressing vital issue in Language and Literature.

  • Explore the possibility of forming World Linguists Association.
