Faculty of Arts

 

The Faculty of Arts is the first Faculty established in the University of Sindh in 1951, during the tenure of Allama I.I. Kazi, (a great philosopher and visionary of 20th century) the founder Vice Chancellor.

 

Faculty of Arts initially comprised all the disciplines of Social Sciences, Islamic Studies, Commerce, Education, Islamic Studies and Humanities, Later, in 1989, the Faculty was split and new Faculties were created.

          

Faculty of Arts is a holistic component of University of Sindh focusing on well-rounded personality development along with vision and character building of students studying there in. Studies in Humanities and Arts not only cast humanizing effect on learners but also help inculcate in them pluralistic attitude patterns. This study, in the ultimate analysis, by investing learners with required vision and insight works toward bringing in to being a congenially harmonious society.

 

The present Faculty of Arts comprises:

  1. Institute of Art & Design

  2. Institute of Language

  3. Institute of English

  4. Department of Philosophy

  5. Department of Sindhi

  6. Department of Urdu

  •      61 Ph.D and 8 M.Phil in Urdu, 42 Ph.D and 5 M.Phil in Sindhi, 12 Ph.D in Arabic and 2 in English has been produced since its establishment.

  •       We have two foreign Ph.D from U.K and One from U.S.A and Nine local Ph.D qualified teachers at present.

  •       One faculty has done his Post Doctorate from SOAS, University of London (2005) under Faculty Development Program. Two teachers have diploma from U.K and U.S.A.
